Quick Stats: 6.4 Miles & 1,279′ gain via Dillon Divide.
Sarah and I are starting to go hiking twice a week now that I’m officially obsessed with peakbagging. I started going through All Trails and finding different mountains to climb and different trails to hike. I also may have started building a spreadsheet of different local objectives, and some future objectives; but that’s just what I do.
We opted for Kagel Mountain via Dillon Divide for our next adventure. As a simple hike on a secluded trail not far from our home, it seemed like a great Wednesday morning objective since Sarah had to be at work later. We got a bagel on the way, which we decided is a new adventure day routine, and then set off for the San Gabriel Mountains. Dillon Divide has a small turnout for you to park in, and on either side of the road are trails that lead you to different mountains on the Western edge of the San Gabriel Mountains. We were on the trail that was headed Southwest, which is neatly maintained and very easy all the way to the summit.
While there were none there that day, apparently the summit is a place for hang gliders to launch from, which made sense considering how cold and windy it was up there.
Overall it’s an easy trail to follow that is easy to get to, and made for a nice morning hike!
